2013 Viatge al Priorat
Joan Simo’s Viatge al Priorat has emerged as one of the region’s top values that few in the mainstream wine press know little about (which keeps the price down). With the average price per bottle of Priorat hovering around $55, it is refreshing to find one of this quality level so fairly priced.
Blackberry, cassis, blue raspberry and graphite aromas jump from the glass of the 2013 Viatge al Priorat. The palate repeats the fruit flavors with an undercurrent of slate and spice accenting the ripe, rambunctious fruit. The finish is long with fresh acidity, cedar and mineral notes adding complexity. Drink this now or cellar it until 2020 to catch a glimpse of how well this wine ages. It is a tremendous value.
