The past couple of weeks, I have really enjoyed the 2012 Guillemot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Jarrons. This red Burgundy comes from the norther region of the Cote du Beaune, which is traditionally known for its whites. But, the Savigny-Les-Beaune region has developed a reputation for producing good quality, inexpensive red burgundies. The wines tend to have fuller bodies with flavors of red berry fruit and a mineral, rustic nature. Les Jarrons is a favored part of the Savigny, considered by some as the best vineyard in the Savigny-Les-Beaune.
I got to taste the 2012 Guillemot Savigny-les-Jarrons 1er cru over the course of two days. It proved to be a great wine that can stand up to time and I’m sure will age beautifully. The bouquet was stunning with rich red fruit and floral notes. On the palate, the clean, ripe red cherry, cranberry, and raspberry notes were delicious. I definitely recommend giving this wine a try, but I would open it up for about an hour or two before enjoying!
